Job Description: East Carolina University is recruiting for a Journey Networking Technician to provide technical assistance in network system configuration, installation, maintenance, low-level trouble-shooting and/or security. These systems require a high level of availability and system security as they are critical to the functions of the university.
This position will assist with the responsibility of daily support and maintenance of networking services for both the East and West campus. Duties include assisting with the installation, maintenance and requirements of enterprise level voice, data and video network systems as well as other related network infrastructure. Work may also involve the installation, configuration, troubleshooting and repair of Ethernet cabling, fiber optics, access points, routers and switches. Technicians resolve network-related work requests which include support for data, voice and video services. This position may also perform a review before a project is started or during a project to ensure adherence to university technical specification standards. Specifications are provided to employees for applications/tasks when appropriate. Troubleshooting may be detected and/or performed onsite or through network monitoring diagnostic tools. Complex network problems are escalated to higher level networking analysts, specialists or vendors for resolution. This is a mission critical position that directly affects nearly all university staff, faculty and students.


Minimum Qualifications: Associates Degree in Electronics, Networking Technology or a closely related degree; Graduation from high school and two years of networking related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Journey level requires an additional six months experience.


Special Instructions to Applicants: This position is subject to the Career Banding Salary Administration Plan. If candidates are not identified at the Journey level, management may consider candidates at a lower competency level. Pay will be commensurate with applicant's competencies as well as budget, equity, and market considerations.

Salary Grade Equivalent: 70 (for reduction-in-force priority purposes only)
