Director, Fellowship Advising

The Director of Fellowship Advising has primary responsibility for overseeing and coordinating the advising for all major postgraduate fellowships and scholarships and various undergraduate scholarships. The Director of Fellowship Advising serves as the first point of contact for any student interested in postgraduate fellowships or undergraduate scholarships and provides ongoing advising throughout the application process. Each fellowship program is unique and has special requirements. The director must have an excellent knowledge of eligibility requirements and application procedures for a wide range of fellowships. Reporting to the Senior Associate Dean of the College, Fellowship Advising joins the Study Abroad Program and the International Internship Program to comprise the Office of International Programs.
- Recruits and coordinates faculty and staff who serve as advisers for particular fellowships. Works closely with these fellowship advisers to support activities that they develop for particular fellowships, including special informational meetings and nomination committee meetings.
- Fields questions and solves problems for students who are applying for fellowships and scholarships and, with the help of other advisers, works with each student to develop the strongest application possible for particular fellowships.
- Organizes sessions to prepare students for interviews by outside selection committees.
- Provides information on fellowship opportunities through a robust website, which is updated regularly.
- Regularly investigates new fellowship opportunities as they arise.
- Develops strategies for publicizing fellowship opportunities to current students and alumni and for identifying suitable candidates.
- Educates students interested in overseas fellowships about the relevant educational systems that they may engage.
- Maintains regular communication with central fellowship offices and their program officers in order to keep abreast of any changes or developments and to ensure compliance with nomination, endorsement, and application procedures.
- Maintains databases relating to student recruitment, institutional endorsements, and success rate in individual fellowship competitions. Analyzes this information for internal reports.

This position has a work schedule of 11 months per year; the anticipated time off is mid-December to mid-January each year with some flexibility. The weekly schedule is 90% duty time, approximately 6.5 hours per day, 5 days per week.

Position requires:

- Advanced degree.
- Substantial knowledge of postgraduate fellowship opportunities and knowledge of the British higher educational system.
- Five years of experience with a proven record of excellent administrative and organizational skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to exercise good judgment and tact in handling sensitive situations involving students and faculty.
- Ability to take initiative and think creatively, including ways to incorporate technology into the advising process. A Ph.D. and prior teaching experience and/or academic advising in a college setting preferred.
