We invite applications for the following positions for Fall 2010, pending available funding. These positions require at least a master s degree in the specified discipline, as well as excellence in teaching, institutional service, currency in field, and ability to lead and to collaborate in curriculum and program development. Teaching experience in higher education, especially at a community college, is strongly desired. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience assessing student learning, who are committed to student success and to the use of classroom assessment to improve teaching and learning, and who are willing to play an integral role in all aspects of campus life. All positions require a willingness on occasion to teach evenings or weekends and at remote sites.
Art 3D/Sculpture: Teach 3D, sculpture, and at least one other studio medium. Demonstrate ability to coordinate the 3D/sculpture curriculum area and provide studio and tool room supervision through both theoretical and practical knowledge of safety procedures, tool acquisition and maintenance, and current developments in the field and in teaching. College level teaching experience, MFA or MA in Art with a concentration in 3D/sculpture and related work as reflected in sufficient graduate hours in those areas are required. An active exhibition record is preferred.
Chemistry: The successful candidate will teach a variety of chemistry courses for both science and non-science majors. A strong background in organic chemistry is required and the successful candidate will teach the department s two-semester organic chemistry sequence as part of their regular teaching load.
English Composition: Teach developmental and first year composition, in computer classrooms, using Writing Program outcomes which are grounded in social and cultural theory for rhetoric, critical thinking, research, and language conventions. Participate in process pedagogy using regular individual conferences within a workshop format and in collaborative portfolio assessment. An M.A. or M.S. in English. Course work in rhetoric and composition is required. In your letter or philosophy statement, address how theories and practices in rhetoric, composition, and social and cultural thought inform your teaching approach in composition. A second field in an additional writing specialization, literature, or another discipline within humanities is beneficial.
Mathematics: Candidates should be able to teach at various levels ranging from developmental math through calculus.
Education/Psychology: The successful candidate will teach courses in our Education department, in particular our introduction to education and educational psychology courses. In addition, the ability to teach courses in developmental psychology (human growth and development and/or child and adolescent psychology) is strongly preferred. The candidate will also work as a liaison with K-12 schools in the community. An M.A. or M.S. in either Education or Psychology with graduate hours in both areas preferred. Experience teaching or working within the K-12 environment is strongly preferred, and teaching experience at the college level is beneficial.
