The State University College at Oneonta is seeking a highly qualified Senior Assistant to the President. Reporting directly to the President, this management/confidential professional position serves as a key member of the President’s management team. The incumbent works with senior level administrators and is the primary liaison, on behalf of the President, with many internal groups and external community and governmental relations. SUNY Oneonta is located in the picturesque foothills of the Catskill Mountains in Upstate New York. Duties include, but are not limited to: Governmental relations, including communications with federal, state and local officials; community relations, including building and maintaining the College’s ties with businesses, nonprofit agencies, and community organizations; Freedom of Information (FOIA) Officer; researching and developing complex, confidential analyses and reports for internal and external review; oversight of all presidential budgets; organization of Commencement and December Candidate Recognition, including selection of honorary degree recipients; liaison on behalf of the President with students, parents, and community members. The successful candidate must demonstrate professionalism, the ability to exercise judgment and discretion, ability to deal with diverse clientele, and to represent the President’s Office and the College in a positive manner. Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in a professionally related discipline; A minimum of three years experience in higher education, public sector management, or campus-related enterprise - or - a minimum of five years of faculty experience; Excellent oral and written communication skills, organizational and interpersonal skills, and analytical and research skills. Preferred: Demonstrable experience in governmental relations; Expert knowledge in computer applications, including Microsoft Office, email, graphics, and desktop publishing and presentation technology.
