ADMIN SUPPORT SPECIALIST - JOURNEY

Job Description: The primary purpose of this position is to provide collection services for the loan program and student accounts. The selected candidate will serve as the lead worker with regard to collections and manage the daily work assignments of one administrative support specialist. This position attempts to contact defaulted borrowers or students with delinquent accounts and attempts to secure payment or arrange payment agreements and/or offers appropriate deferments; submits delinquent accounts to the North Carolina Department of Justice/Attorney General's office in accordance with Office of State Controller accounts receivable policy; submits delinquent accounts to the North Carolina Department of Revenue for State Income Tax Refund garnishment (SODCA); submits accounts to Office of State Budget and Management for collections under SEDCA; and submits accounts to state-approved collection agencies for collections. In addition, the position processes Perkins loan default cancellations and assigns the accounts to the Department of Education; refers protested student account balances to student accounts for research and verification; and monitors and tracks the Perkins Cohort Default Rate, an indicator of Perkins Loan borrowers who have defaulted on their loans and are not in good standing with the program.


Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from high school and one year of related office experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.


Special Instructions to Applicants: This position is subject to the Career Banding Salary Administration Plan. If candidates are not identified at the Journey level, management may consider candidates at a lower competency level. Pay will be commensurate with applicant's competencies as well as budget, equity, and market considerations.

Salary Grade Equivalent: 61 (for reduction-in-force priority purposes only)
