Educational Requirements: This position requires a Bachelors degree in Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Health & Safety Science, Risk Management, or a related field. A Masters degree is preferred.
Position Requirements:
A minimum of 3 years experience and memberships in professional organizations are preferred. A professional certification such as: Certified Safety Professional, Certified Industrial Hygienist, Certified Associate Industrial Hygienist, or the Occupational Health and Safety Technologist are preferred and can substitute for the education or experience requirements. Completion of OSHA HAZWOPPER, DOT 181, and other professional development courses is strongly recommended.

Description:
The Environmental Safety Coordinator fosters a safe workplace environment by advancing environmental, health and safety performance improvement in support of regulatory requirements and university policies. This position develops and implements environmental, health and safety management systems to integrate EH&S into university operations. The Environmental Safety Coordinator should be able to independently perform building and campus inspections as necessary and conduct inspections and investigations in order to comply with OSHA and EPA regulations and published standards. The Coordinator works with minimal supervision and acts as liaison with university departments. Along with other Environmental Safety Coordinators, this position reports directly to the Director of Risk Management and Environmental Health and Safety. The unit is part of the larger risk management and safety services department responsible for emergency and continuity management, public safety, and policy and compliance oversight.
This position is responsible for:
- evaluating employee exposure to potential hazards and interpreting data to determine appropriate controls to eliminate hazardous exposures;
- understanding and communicating basic sample and survey data;
- interpreting federal, state and local laws, regulations, and policies as they apply to environmental practices and regulatory reporting;
- recommending and developing appropriate strategies to address university safety, health and environmental policies/standards and regulatory requirements; and
- investigating and resolving issues, questions, or concerns received from within the university, from outside clients, regulatory agencies, etc.
