Educational Requirements: BS degree in Computer Science, or equivalent experience/ training.

Position Requirements:
3+ years experience developing/ implementing data warehousing and business intelligence solutions
3+ years experience developing and/or integrating applications in a relational database environment, including developing stored procedures and triggers.
Experience building data models preferred
Knowledge of BI tools and experience implementing solutions with BI tools, like Cognos, Business Objects or Microstrategy preferred
Preferred experience working with ETL tools like Ab-initio or Datastage
Knowledge of best practices in data warehousing a plus
Strong experience following SDLC and iterative processes, as well as understanding and active participation in change management procedures will be a plus
Proven ability to meet deadlines, ability to multi-task effectively.
Excellent communication, analytical skills, as well as the ability to work effectively with all levels of management, customers and vendors.
Demonstrates the ability to interface with a wide variety of users to determine business requirements. Has the ability to translate business requirements to efficient, useful applications.
Customer facing skills, ability to lead requirements discussions and trade-offs with business partners and vendors.
Demonstrated ability to multi-task effectively managing priorities across multiple staff and academic units.
Experience with ERP solutions/ integrating data from ERP solutions will be considered a plus.
Understanding and experience with web technologies will be considered a plus
Availability after-hours to support staff as needed.
Desire & ability to learn and apply new skills/technologies quickly and efficiently.
Proactive, results-oriented and can-do attitude extremely desirable.
Demonstrate flexibility, with the ability to work with different business areas and new technologies as the team evolves and matures
Experience with MicroStrategy business intelligence tools is a plus.

Description:
The Business Intelligence Developer/ Architect will be responsible for designing, architecting and implementing reporting and analytical processes to sustain and extend the enterprise data warehouse (DW) and supporting business intelligence (BI) structures. He/she will be a hands-on technical expert, with the ability to lead project teams and/or work with multiple customers/ stakeholders as needed.

This position will report directly to the Director of Information Services and will work with the rest of Information Services team to implement Business Intelligence solutions at American University, and related data warehousing solutions, as needed

Understand the data warehouse and business intelligence needs across campus; address technology needs with high quality, timeliness, and cost justified analytical solutions
Provide leadership for analysis, technical approach, design, development, project planning and implementation, including regular project status to supervisor and key stakeholders
Successfully implement new analytical solutions for AU, perform analysis to develop best approach for implementation
Develop complex analytic queries and data transformations in SQL and other DW / BI tool sets
Assist in the development of production reports, cubes and analytical applications
Capture and maintain business and technical metadata in a user and developer accessible repository
Ensure the integrity, reliability and data quality of the BI systems, applications and processes by monitoring and administering the system, as appropriate
Develop (hands-on) solutions that meet defined outcomes and are flexible
Work with extended technology team members to implement custom built or third party solutions
Work with customer/ stakeholder to implement new technology, as designed
Implement new data warehouse tools and infrastructure, architecture, support integration with external systems, develop database design, support data management, evaluate current systems and operations, lead product selection, and participate in all phases of system delivery and support
Support AUs data warehouse and business intelligence solutions, as assigned, and as needed
Provide technical support and assistance to data warehouse developers through training, presentations, documentation and one-on-one help
