High school diploma or equivalent required. Must have completed a minimum of 30 post-secondary education credits or equivalent in experience or training; excellent communication skills, including the ability to write detailed incident reports, reliability, and integrity are essential for success in this position. Must possess knowledge of personal computers and office software applications (word processing, databases, etc.). Must submit an American University employment application and your resume to be considered for this position.
Candidates must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Special Police Officer Commission which requires: United States citizenship, a minimum age of 21, and to reveal if you have ever been arrested or charged with any offense other than parking violations. Ability to obtain certification at a recognized law enforcement training academy or equivalent. Must possess and maintain a current drivers license; able to obtain the Universitys approval to drive University vehicles. This position requires the successful completion of a background check, drug screening and medical exam.
The Patrol Officer works one of three shifts. However, the officer may be detailed to work any other shift by assignment or by rotation as determined by the officers chain-of-command. Position is considered as essential under the University Personnel policy guidelines and therefore is subject to being on call when necessary.
Description:
Patrol Officer interacts daily, with the university and surrounding communities to promote cooperative crime prevention efforts, community policing and provide police and security services, while protecting life and property. Performs preventative patrol and public service duties to include response to all emergencies. This is an unarmed position. Enforces all U.S., D.C. laws and University rules and regulations. Accurately and thoroughly prepares incident reports; safeguards information and evidence to ensure successful follow up and resolution. The Patrol Officer must be interested in contributing to a high level of customer service and accountability within the department.
