Associate Provost for Faculty Affairs

Virginia Tech seeks an innovative and dynamic leader to champion the recruitment, advancement, and retention of a diverse and talented faculty workforce. This person will:

- provide leadership for initiatives related to diversifying and supporting faculty, including recruitment and retention of women and faculty of color
- serve as the primary point of contact concerning faculty personnel issues, working closely with the provost, deans, department heads, human resources and legal counsel
- review and approve faculty personnel actions, leaves, search exemptions, consulting, and disclosures of conflicts of interest
- coordinate annual orientation programs for new department heads and academic leaders
- provide leadership for key initiatives affecting faculty, such as promotion and tenure, work-life policies, dual career hiring, mentoring, and electronic faculty activity reports
- lead the development, implementation, and interpretation of faculty employment policies
- oversee the revisions to the Faculty Handbook and represent the provost on selected committees and commissions related to faculty matters

Required Qualifications: Credentials appropriate for appointment as a tenured faculty member at Virginia Tech; significant administrative experience at the department, college and/or university level at an institution with a substantive research mission; documented involvement and accomplishment related to diversifying the faculty and demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a wide variety of university constituents.

Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated commitment to high academic standards and to creating and sustaining an inclusive university community; experience addressing and/or managing faculty personnel issues; experience in policy development and implementation; ability to analyze data to identify issues and inform executive decision making.
