POSITION DESCRIPTION AND DUTIES

Medgar Evers College seeks an experienced senior executive to work with a team in creating and maintaining the facilities infrastructure as a resource that serves the College community. The College places special importance on the role and appearance of its buildings and grounds.

Duties:

Reporting to the Senior Vice President/Chief Operating Officer, the Assistant Vice President serves as the College s chief officer for the direction, planning, coordination and administration of the activities involving Campus Planning and Development, Physical Plant Services, and ancillary operations including Environmental Safety and Health and Sustainability.

Chief responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Supervising the functions of the Offices of Campus Planning, Building and Grounds and all ancillary operations reporting to this Vice President.
  • Assisting the Chief Operating Officer in developing and implementing protocols for managing campus facilities, including routine maintenance, special projects, and projects under the supervision of CUNY and DASNY.
  • Responsibility as a participant in the process of implementation of the Medgar Evers College Master Plan.
  • Overseeing the development, establishment and maintenance of the databases to record the current status of Medgar Evers College s facilities to ensure routine maintenance and to track the required maintenance on all major equipment.
  • Representing the College with CUNY and DASNY offices related to facilities.
  • Attending all planning sessions of capital projects from the conceptual stages through schematic design, and serves as the college's primary liaison during construction.
  • Assisting the Chief Operating Officer in facilitating communications to the Campus community about facilities issues.


QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

A Baccalaureate degree from an accredited university in engineering, architecture, or a related field, and ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in the design, construction, management, and operations of facilities, at least five (5) years of which are at a senior-level of supervision in related areas of responsibility. Additional training/certification in appropriate areas of facilities operation/management preferred. Demonstrated evidence of ability to manage multi-facility complex, proven project management skills, knowledge of applicable local, state, environmental and safety regulations, excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal skills and effective, productive working relationships with diverse groups is essential. Preference will be given to candidates with successful experience in institutions of higher education in environments with functional responsibilities similar to those of Medgar Evers College.
