EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, INSTITUTIONAL ADVANCEMENT

THE POSITION
Under the direction of the Superintendent/President and the Foundation Board of directors, the Executive Director, Institutional Advancement oversees the Solano College Foundation and resource development including the grants program; provides leadership assistance with marketing and public relations for the Solano Community College District; assists the District and administers the Foundation to meet enrollment, resource, and advancement goals; serves as the Superintendent/President’s liaison with the Foundation’s Board of Directors; serves as one of the District’s main representatives to the community to advance Solano College and the Foundation, and performs other related work as required.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
The Executive Director, Institutional Advancement is distinguished by the requirement for working directly with the Foundation Board of Directors and other groups external to and in support of the College. The incumbent must understand and promote the connection between the Foundation/Institutional Advancement functions and student learning and institutional effectiveness outcomes.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES
Implements accreditation recommendations and standards Provides leadership to the Solano College Foundation, including advancement functions, resource and fund development plans and activities, the grants program and, as requested by the Superintendent/President, the District's Public Information and Marketing Program. Develops plans for generating revenue and managing and distributing funds in support of District programs, working with the Superintendent/President in collaboration with the Foundation. Develops and implements policy, working with the Superintendent/President in coordinating the functions of the Foundation Board of Directors and it committees. Develops, trains, and rewards the volunteers who serve on the Foundation Board and as College Ambassadors. Serves as a liaison between the District, the Foundation, and individuals, groups, businesses, and corporations in and/or connected with the Solano Community Enhances College/community relationships, establish or enhance programs of donor recognition, (working with the Superintendent/President). Develops and administers an integrated, advancement, marketing, and resource development program in which staff members work cooperatively and collaboratively as a team. Assists in the development of a marketing plan that relates to enrollment management, enhancing the College’s image and reputation, developing and strengthening programs, institutional advancement, and annual and long-range planning. Serves on District standing committees as assigned. Recommends for employment, provides for training, directs, supervises, and evaluates the work performance of the department staff. Produces and hosts public and community relations events, Foundation advancement and other events (using paid and volunteer staff). Recommends and administers department budgets. Compiles and maintains statistical and other data and write reports. Interacts and communicates with public and new media and behalf of the District, as requested by the Superintendent/President. Directs Foundation-related fundraising activities including recordkeeping, acknowledgement, and recognition. Directs the maintenance of donor/prospect records and mailing lists for programs of annual and planned giving. Direct volunteer activities in the areas of research, cultivation, and solicitation of prospective (individual and corporate) donors. Increases the donor base. Develops and implements all forms of planned giving, capital, and major gifts campaigns, endowment development, and scholarship annual campaigns. Provides leadership in entrepreneurial activities appropriate for the Foundation. Provides own transportation and travel countywide. Establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the performance of duties. Supervise and evaluate staff. Communicates effectively orally and in writing.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
KNOWLEDGE OF:
Evidence of sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college staff and students. College development program – capital campaigns, endowments, annual, and planned giving programs. Legal requirements for 501(c) (3) organizations and District policies and procedures. Changes in state and federal laws that affect college development programs. Securing grants, financial support. Contemporary practices in public relations, marketing and communication. Supervisory/administrative principles and practices. Current usage of English, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary.

ABILITY TO: Develop and implement a comprehensive integrated marketing and communications plan with the purpose of advancing the District brand identity. Effectively interact with College departments and programs in order to coordinate outreach efforts. Collaborate with faculty and administrative staff in shared governance. Use Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems as well as basic office, computer technology to facilitate and support student services and staff productivity. Work within Board/District approved guidelines to establish positive media and community relations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a regionally accredited institution of higher education and coursework in resource development is required. Demonstrated initiative and creativity in college advancement programs, one year of full-time equivalent experience with college or private foundation(s), and one year of full-time management level experience, including supervising staff, budget, and accounting procedures.

Preferred Qualifications
Graduate degree work in resource development, advancement, marketing, or administration; experience in marketing and/or development experience such as public relations and/or publications; three years of full-time experience with college or private foundations(s); three years of full-time management level experience including supervising staff, budget, and accounting procedures; and experience working in a community college. challenges of a comprehensive community college.
NOTE: Degree must be from an accredited institution.

SALARY AND BENEFITS:
$93,956 - $101,894
2010 -11 Salary Schedule
$2,400 Doctorate Stipend
12 months per year; minimum of 40 hours per week
22-25 days vacation; 15 paid holidays
5 days management leave per year
1.2 days sick leave per month
District-paid medical, dental, vision for employee and dependents. District-paid life insurance for employee and 10 years of retiree benefits after 10 years of service.
