Bluefield State College is seeking applications and nominations for the position of Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. As the chief academic officer, the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs has primary responsibility for an array of dynamic academic initiatives at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. She/He will report directly to the President and, as a senior member of the President's team, will work collaboratively with an experienced and committed group of administrative colleagues. The Provost's most fundamental concerns are with teaching, research and outreach that embody and express the educational values and goals of the College.
The provost reports to the president and acts as the chief executive officer in the president's absence. The provost is responsible for providing leadership and vision for all academic programs. She/He is responsible for academic planning, program development, educational policy, program assessment, and faculty evaluation and development. Reporting directly to the Provost are Academic Deans in Arts & Sciences, Nursing & Allied Health, Business, Engineering Technology & Computer Science, and Education as well as the Director of Title III programs. In particular, the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs provides leadership and oversight for the curriculum, academic standards and faculty development as well as assessment, accreditation, and tenure and promotion.
The successful candidate must possess an earned doctorate or equivalent from an accredited institution, a strong record of teaching, engagement, and research and scholarship plus academic leadership as a provost, dean, vice president or department head is required. Candidates' academic credentials and achievements should be in line with those of a tenured associate or full professor. Experience with accreditation and experience developing graduate and online programs is also required. She/He must have the ability to articulate and achieve a progressive vision for the college that offers professional and pre-professional programs, evidence of excellent financial and human resource management skills, demonstrated skill in team building and working with other senior officers and students and the ability to maintain collegial relationships and a strong commitment to diversity.
