Eastern Oregon University (EOU) invites nominations and applications for the position of Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs.
Eastern Oregon University, founded in 1929, is one of seven universities in the Oregon University System and is located in the scenic Blue Mountains of northeast Oregon. EOU has recently selected a new President, Dr. Robert O. Davies, who has brought a vibrancy and enthusiasm to the University and the communities it serves. Dr. Davies' message is that EOU will concentrate on access, affordability and engagement with the community throughout his tenure. Additionally, Dr. Davies is committed to implementing a strong provost model of governance and administration.
From its beginnings as a normal school, EOU has always been dedicated to being a center for education, culture and scholarship for the region. Today, as a regional university, EOU is nationally recognized for being a leader and pioneer in undergraduate education.
EOU's total student population is 3,957 and the University offers over 20 bachelor’s degrees through three colleges (Arts and Sciences, Business, and Education). EOU also offers three graduate programs: a Master of Business Administration, Master of Arts in Teaching and Master of Science in Education. Through cooperative partnerships, EOU also offers degrees in agriculture and nursing, as well as multiple pre-professional programs. A core value of EOU is the focus on providing a personalized approach to education. This core value is paramount in all that EOU does. EOU was among the first to aggressively offer distance education courses and continues this tradition today with 16 sites and centers across the state of Oregon serving nearly half of all of its students.
The Provost reports to the President and is the chief academic officer for EOU. The Provost will also serve at the chief executive officer in the absence of the President. The Provost is responsible for providing leadership and vision for all academic programs and for assisting in leading a strategic initiative process for the entire University and in supporting the vision of the President for the overall University.
Minimum Qualifications: An earned doctorate or terminal degree from a regionally accredited institution or foreign equivalent; credentials for the rank of a tenured full professor; demonstrated success in teaching, service and scholarship at an undergraduate institution; an exemplary record of administrative and university leadership; demonstrated ability to establish collaborative relationships across the university and in all divisions; a commitment to outcome assessment; demonstrated skills in budgetary and financial matters; a commitment to the delivery of higher education on campus, online and onsite; a commitment to supporting a climate of inclusivity that recruits, retains, and graduates underserved populations; a dedication to undergraduate education and innovation; a demonstrated sense and spirit of shared governance; a commitment to a student-centered approach of higher education; the ability to recruit, retain and promote women and people of diverse race and ethnic backgrounds; an impeccable history of ethical behavior and personal integrity; and a sense of humor.
The preferred candidate will demonstrate the ability not only to lead a team of high achieving professionals, but also to be an integral part of this team; the ability to develop partnerships, with both internal and external constituencies; the ability to foster communication in an open, transparent and inclusive style of leadership and governance; the ability to navigate through difficult situations by initiating and negotiating creative and collaborative solutions; a clear resolve to make decisions and the wisdom to change course when appropriate; an entrepreneurial spirit in developing new initiatives that have augmented programs and enhanced recruitment and retention of students; and a commitment to the mission of a regional university serving remote rural communities.
