ASSOCIATE DEAN, GRADUATE STUDIES AND RESEARCH

Job Description: The College of Education at East Carolina University is seeking applications and nominations for the position of Associate Dean, Graduate Studies and Research. The Associate Dean reports directly to the Dean, is an integral part of the Dean's staff, and works closely with the Dean of the Graduate School and the Office of Sponsored Programs and Grants/Contracts. The successful candidate will work effectively with faculty/staff to develop/enhance graduate and professional education and will lead the ongoing development of a rich and engaged research community that is committed to improving education/services for the citizens of the region. The duties of this position involve: supporting the research and creative activities of the faculty; engaging in program and curriculum development; overseeing the faculty mentoring program; and collecting data on graduate programs and supporting best practices in graduate education. The Associate Dean of Graduate Studies and Research will lead strategic long-term planning efforts in the areas of graduate programs, research, grant development and grants management (grants manager reports directly to this position) and then work with others to implement the vision that will take each of these areas to the next level of excellence.

East Carolina University, the third largest university in the UNC system, is located in North Carolina's coastal plain midway between Raleigh and the coast. A rapidly growing institution of nearly 28,000 students, ECU is a research-intensive university which offers more than 104 bachelor's degree programs, 73 master's degree programs, 4 intermediate degree programs, 17 doctoral programs, and 2 first professional degree programs (MD, DDS). The ECU College of Education is an academic unit within the Division of Academic Affairs and has a student enrollment of approximately 1283 undergraduate and 1495 graduate students. Minimum Qualifications: The minimum qualifications for the position include:
Doctoral degree in one of the disciplines in the College of Education and sufficient scholarly and academic achievement to be eligible for an appointment as a tenured full or associate professor.
Documented experience in administration of graduate programs at the master's and/or doctoral level.
Established record of effectiveness at or beyond the department level in strategic planning, administrative processes, academic policy, grant development and grant management.
Comprehensive understanding of the dynamics of the different degree programs in a College of Education and the opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration.
Strong creative and collaborative leadership skills, knowledge of university organizations, ability to build effective working relationships with community constituents, commitment to support of affirmative action and diversity in an academic environment, and a desire to work as a part of an administrative team both inside the College of Education and in the university community at large.
