Job Summary:

Inspects and maintains all track structure and right-of-way (ROW) to specifications set by CSX Transportation (CSXT) and the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA). Directly supervises and develops track forces to ensure quality maintenance and safe work performance. Responsible for all aspects of safety in their area of responsibility on a division. Leads and manages the personal safety and track safety process and insures policy compliance. Responsible for the overall track inspection and maintenance on the portion of the division.

Primary Activities and Responsibilities:

* Manage safe and efficient work conditions.

* Efficiently plan work and allocate resources to ensure timely accomplishment of tasks.

* Inspects production gang work and track construction projects to ensure quality compliance.

* Makes periodic track inspection monitoring to ensure that all Federal and CSX requirements are being met by track inspectors.

* Ensures that any defects found by geometry cars and rail test cars are corrected by proper remedial action, within proper time frames using the Integrated Track Inspection System (ITIS) and Geometry Exceptions Management System (GEMS) for reporting and tracking work.

* Conducts efficiency and operational tests.

* Effectively communicate and build rapport across departments, sub-departments and public agencies.

* Effective utilization of performance management and interpersonal skills to ensure timely feedback and coaching as required to maintain discipline and improve performance.

* Ensure compliance to budget with hiring, overtime, and materials procurement.

* Responsible for engineering activities at major derailments and natural disasters.

* Miscellaneous activities and responsibilities as assigned by manager.

Minimum Qualifications:

* High School diploma/GED required

* 1 or more years of supervisory experience required in Engineering (civil, structural, electrical, mechanical)

* Certifications/license: Commercial Drivers License (CDL) or able to qualify required

Equivalent Minimum Qualifications:

* Associates degree required in Engineering

* 2-11 months of supervisory experience required in Engineering (civil, structural, electrical, mechanical)

* Certifications/license: Commercial Drivers License (CDL) or able to qualify required

Preferred Qualifications:

* Bachelors degree in Engineering

* 2-11 months of supervisory experience in Engineering; Construction, Structural Engineering, or Civil Engineering

* Certifications/license: Commercial Drivers License (CDL) or able to qualify

Knowledge and Skills:

* Microsoft Office skills (Outlook, Excel & Power Point)

* Engineering knowledge and skills

* Construction knowledge and skills

* Regulatory (FRA) knowledge

* Railroad industry knowledge

Job Requirements:

* Wear protective equipment such as welding shields, hard hat, hearing protection, steel-toe boots, work boots, safety vest, face shield, and safety glasses.

* Work hours may vary in length and schedule. Work hours may include a nonstandard workweek and various shift work.

* 20 - 50% travel required within regularly assigned territory.

* Less than 10% travel required outside of regularly assigned territory.

* Work hours may include on call 7 days a week, 24 hours per day, with extended periods of time away from home.

* Need to be available to report to work with two-hour advance notice.

* Federal regulations require random testing for drugs and/or alcohol.

* The applicant selected for this position must successfully complete a background check and drug test. Passing results must be received prior to start date in new position.
