Assistant Professor of Marine Biology
The Division of Science and Environmental Policy (SEP) is seeking a marine organismal biologist/physiologist. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with other division faculty to teach courses, develop curricula, advise/mentor students, and conduct research that involves undergraduate students.
SEP is a collaborative group of interdisciplinary scientists and staff who offer a B.S. in Environmental Science, Technology, and Policy (ESTP), a B.S. in Biology, and an M.S. in Coastal and Watershed Science & Policy. We emphasize hands-on, applied, field-based learning in a wide range of natural habitats in the Monterey Bay region, and work in a supportive, collegial setting. Responsibilities:
- Teach undergraduate courses, as needed, in two or more of the following areas: plant/animal form and function, animal physiology, marine organismal biology, bioethics, writing & critical thinking, or other writing-intensive courses for science majors.
- Oversee undergraduate research in Biology and ESTP.
- Work closely with SEP faculty as part of an interdisciplinary team.
Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
• Ph.D. in biology, physiology, zoology or a related field.
• Experience teaching biology, particularly at the undergraduate level.
• Track record of successful research in marine biology at the organismal level.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Desirable Qualifications:
• Ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary environment.
• Experience mentoring undergraduate research projects and/or internships, including students from diverse cultural, ethnic, educational, and economic backgrounds.
• Experience and interest in teaching writing in the sciences.
• Experience in writing grant proposals and securing extramural funding.
