Assistant Professor of Dance
Cornish College of the Arts Dance Department
Position: Assistant Professor of Dance, Core Faculty, beginning Fall 2010
Responsibilities
Teach all levels of ballet technique, men s technique, ballet partnering, and at least two other subject areas drawn from the following: additional dance forms, somatic and conditioning techniques, improvisation, choreography, dance technology, Laban Movement Analysis, music, history and theory. Choreograph for student concerts. Produce department concerts. Advise and mentor undergraduate dance majors. Participate in department and college governance. Participate in student recruitment. Contribute to the life of the Department and the College. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
M.F.A. or equivalent professional experience. Significant professional experience in ballet. Minimum five years of experience teaching in professional setting. Choreographic experience. Ability to teach anatomically-sound technique in a student-centered environment. Ability to mentor students and contribute to the artistic and personal development of undergraduate dance majors. Ability to participate in and contribute to department and college governance. Commitment to multicultural perspectives and ability to relate well with a diverse community.
Department
The Dance Department is one of 7 departments in a private visual and performing arts college in Seattle, WA. A core faculty of 6 augmented by 15 adjunct faculty guide 80 undergraduate dance majors in a BFA program designed to prepare students for a broad range of professional opportunities.
Compensation
Assistant Professor entry level, $45,858. Excellent medical and dental coverage, and other benefits.
