DIRECTOR, GRADUATE ADMISSIONS
Job Description: The Director of Graduate Admissions has responsibility for enrollment management functions as they pertain to all graduate programs, including recruitment and retention of students, coordination of admissions, student services, and data compilation, management, and analysis. S/he works as an advocate for students and helps identify and address ways to improve the student application experience. S/he is a resource for and liaison between the graduate admissions office and other ECU offices/services. S/he works with the Assistant Dean of the Graduate School to provide program information to prospective students and coordinate the preparation and dissemination of academic information. S/he is responsible for the implementation of the Graduate School's strategies, plans, and programs as they relate to student admissions and the university's enrollment management policies, including but not limited to academic policies and procedures. S/he works with the Assistant Dean in outreach efforts as part of the initiative to increase educational aspirations.
Supervises the Graduate Admissions process for all graduate programs, insuring adherence to FERPA and nationally recognized standards for admissions record keeping. Acts as a resource for the Graduate School Advisory Board and Graduate Assembly. Ensures that the Graduate Admissions Office staff maintain contact with prospective students throughout the admissions process. Coordinates with the Graduate Program Directors and appropriate professional staff to plan and implement admission and enrollment activities. Directs effective processes for collecting, analyzing, and reporting data related to graduate applications and admissions; oversees maintenance of accurate applicant records.
Directs and oversees the Graduate Application Quality Assurance Program
Works with the Assistant Dean to disseminate information about the application process and requirements for graduate/research assistantships and scholarships administered by ECU; assists in the coordination of graduate/research assistantship applications, works with the Dean of Graduate Studies, Associate Dean and the Director of Graduate Admissions to disburse scholarships and assistantships.
Works closely with faculty and Graduate Program Chairs to ensure a high quality experience for students during the admissions process and after enrollment. Acts as liaison for students during admission appeals process, inactivation process, and probation process. Works with the Assistant Dean of the Graduate School as well as other graduate program staff in determining publication needs and helps develop materials for students and prospective students. Works with the Assistant Dean in developing the orientation of graduate students including the dissemination of registration information; serves as a liaison between students and the Registrar, the Business Office, Financial Aid and Student Billing.
Compiles and disseminates information about changes to graduate degree and/or certificate programs, curricula, requirements, and policies
Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree from an appropriately accredited institution and at least 3 years of relevant experience. Demonstrated experience with student populations. Demonstrated ability to establish relationships and collaborate collegially and effectively with diverse students, staff, faculty, administrators and the community. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Highly effective interpersonal skills, tact and diplomacy. Demonstrated ability to organize and manage work, supervise staff effectively, and meet deadlines. Strong problem-solving skills.
